First Ever Summer Game-A-Thon Kicks off on the Pozz Games YouTube Channel
Exciting news out of the Pozz Games camp! Starting tomorrow (Tuesday, June 13th, 2023) at 3pm EST, I’ll be going LIVE on both the Pozz Games AND The Nintendo Beast YouTube channel for an epic, 3 day long, cross-channel live stream event! Summer Game-A-Thon 2023 is the first of what I hope will evolve into an even larger annual event on the channel! As with everything on the Pozz Games YouTube channel, the goal is to raise awareness and funds for cystic fibrosis research. Throughout the stream, I’ll be playing a beloved and very on-brand summer game… Super Mario Sunshine!
The story behind Summer Game-A-Thon is largely the same as the story behind Pozz Games as a whole. I’ll spare you the minute details. The key information is as follows:
Back in middle school and early high school, a couple of friends and I started and operated a video game centric website and YouTube channel called PwnZonez. We had a lot of fun with it, but we were young and dumb and didn’t really know what we were doing with it. That project eventually folded up as we looked toward life after high school. In 2016 (a couple of years after we had graduated), the idea to restart PwnZonez emerged. We rebranded it to Pozz and that was the beginning of what is now Pozz Games… although it took a few more years before any content was actually created for the channel.
Fast forward to 2018 when one of the original PwnZonez team members from way back when, now a co-founder of Pozz Games, and always a truly incredible friend to me even when I didn’t deserve it – passed away due to complications with his cystic fibrosis. He was the inspiration, even before his passing, that lead me to decide Pozz Games would be a charity project from day 1 benefiting cystic fibrosis research. His passing only amplified that.
Fast forward again to today – June 12th, 2023. In 2 days (June 14th), it would be his 28th birthday. I’ve been spit-balling for a few years now the idea of doing something on the channel for his birthday, and obviously this year – I’m doing it! I chose to play Super Mario Sunshine because it’s absolutely summery, its on-brand for both Pozz Games AND The Nintendo Beast, and Sunshine I recall was one of my buddy’s favorite Mario games. It all just kind of fits poetically together.
I don’t know how successful the event will be at raising funds, but I’m going to give it my all anyway and have a lot of fun along the way! I’m working on making sure the production value for this stream is extra high. I always try to keep production value on the higher end for my videos and live streams, but this one is obviously extra special!
